About Confidence-First English®️
Supportive anxiety-aware English teaching for children and adults, built around confidence, psychological safety, and gentle progress.
Hi,
I’m Freya V. Locke (known as English Tutor Freya), a qualified TEFL/TESOL tutor, published writer, businesswoman, mum, and creator of the Confidence-First English®️ method.
When learning anything, I believe that confidence must come before fluency.
Too many English learners hold themselves back because they’re afraid of making mistakes. My approach helps learners build confidence first, so they can speak more freely, communicate more effectively, and develop genuine fluency over time.
Here you’ll find practical tips, encouragement, and strategies to help you overcome anxiety, speak with confidence, and enjoy using English in the real world.
Because your voice matters more than perfect grammar.

Confidence First English®️ provides anxiety-aware English education. Lessons may include optional breathing, grounding, reflection, and confidence-building activities designed to help learners feel calmer and more able to participate. These activities support learning and general wellbeing but are not mental-health treatment or a substitute for professional care.
The ideas, experiences, opinions, and teaching approaches shared here are my own. I sometimes use AI as an editorial tool to help me organise ideas, explore structure, check clarity, or refine early drafts. Every article is reviewed, revised, and approved by me, and I remain responsible for everything I publish.
